SDMC issues over 29,000 notices to MSW violators

‘ ₹1.12 crore was collected as fine’

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation issued 29,237 notices to violators of the municipal solid waste management (MSW) by-laws and based on directions of the NGT, in the three months between May and July this year.

The civic body stated that ₹1,12,78,960 was collected as fine through these notices. Under the NGT’s directions, these notices were for violations such as pollution from construction and demolition activities, throwing of refuse in drains and burning of garbage and leaves. Under the MSW, notices were issued for failure to segregate, store and handover the waste by householders and vendors. Also, the failure to deal with construction and demolition waste. Out of these, 3,910 were for littering against which ₹27,54,450 was collected. And 8,203 mobile notices were also issued. The SDMC commissioner, Puneet Goel, said that to spread awareness, SDMC had advertised in the newspapers, distributed pamphlets on MSW by-laws.
