The sleuths of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) seized foreign currency worth ₹40 lakh from a 37-year-old passenger bound for Dubai at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad, here on Friday morning.

During baggage screening around 1 a.m., the CISF officials found suspicious articles in accused Santosh Chinta’s hand baggage, who was about to board a Dubai-bound FlyDubai flight no. FZ 436.

On examining the baggage, officials found 625 Kuwait Dinars, 183 Oman Riyals, 195 Bahrain Dinars and 1,89,600 Arabian Riyals of various denominations.

Mr. Chinta, a native of Korutla in Jagital district, along with the seized foreign currency, handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials.

During interrogation he confessed that the currency was obtained from unauthorized dealers so that it can be sold in Dubai for high commission, a DRI official said.

“Lured by the high profits, he got involved in this activity though he is well aware of the fact that it is illegal,” official said.

Further, Chinta told officials that he had earlier carried foreign currency worth ₹9 lakh during his visit in May.

Chief Airport Security Officer of Hyderabad airport, CISF Commandant Sudhir Kumar, appreciated the duty personnel.
