Kanwariya arrested for vandalising car in Moti Nagar

The Delhi Police on Thursday arrested a kanwariya involved in vandalising a car in Moti Nagar on Tuesday.

The car driver had allegedly brushed past a kanwariya near Moti Nagar metro station after which a group of kanwariyas vandalised the vehicle overturning it.

Vijay Kumar, DCP (West) said that during the enquiry to identify people involved in the incident, they scanned CCTVs in the area and mobile footage that were doing the rounds on social media. The statements of eyewitnesses were also recorded.

“We had formed several police teams to identify and arrest the people involved in the incident. CCTV footage of a large number of shops and kanwariya camps on the road were analysed. The records of kanwariya camps and criminals en route the destination of police stations falling on the Najafgarh Road were scrutinised and compared,” Mr. Kumar said.

A police team working in the case zeroed on a man identified as Rahul alias Billa, a resident of Gurpreet Nagar in Uttam Nagar. He was previously involved in a theft case registered against him in Uttam Nagar police station.

He was interrogated and was arrested after he confessed his involvement in the vandalism. He was also seen on the footages.

Weapon of offence

Further investigation is being carried out for recovery of weapon of offence and arrest of the co-accused.

On Wednesday, the Delhi Police had registered a case against unknown persons after several videos showing a group of kanwariyas vandalising a car in west Delhi’s Moti Nagar went viral.
