One of the walls of the Trauma Care Unit at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar subsided on Thursday.

As a result, as many as 25 patients had to be shifted to a different ward.  Getting information, Khordha district Collector Nirmal Mishra rushed to the hospital to take stock of the situation.

Following the incident, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) that had undertaken the construction work of the AIIMS submitted a detailed report on the damages to the concerned authorities.

“We had contacted the CPWD officials after the cracks developed; and after a thorough inspection, they have submitted a report,” informed AIIMS, Bhubaneswar Director Gitanjali Batmanabane. “The CPWD, in its report has stated that some part of the soil underneath the structure settled causing the cracks.  The problem can be fixed by constructing a beam around it. They have assured that it will take one month to complete the repair work,” the AIIMS Director said. “After completion of the work, the patients will be shifted back to the Casualty Trauma Care Unit,” she added.
