LUDHIANA: Aiming to inculcate habit of cashless traveling among commuters traveling in city buses, the Ludhiana municipal corporation is planning to launch common utility cards which will be made available at its Suvidha Centres and sub-zonal offices.
In future, these cards will be applicable in public bike sharing project which is in process under the Smart City Mission. In the bike sharing project, the bikes will be available on a rental basis at some points and people can use these cards to take bikes on rent.

The detailed project report for the public bike sharing project is being prepared by the consultant company of the Smart City Mission. These cards will be issued on the pattern of metro train cards. The civic officials have plans to convince people to make payments for every service at MC office through these cards, whether it is payment of pending dues or taking any kind of document.

Moreover, the MC has taken digitization challenge of the Union government for which they are attempting several methods to bring as many changes in the system. The competition had started in the month of July and it will end in October while results will be announced in December.

Additional MC commissioner Sanyam Aggarwal said they have already started facility of swipe machines at Suvidha Centres and ‘digi dost’ has been deputed to help public. He said by August 20, they will launch these cards in the city buses, but people will have to wait for some time for the public bike sharing project.
