BENGALURU: An insurance company is in the dock for allegedly misusing the
photograph of an IAS officer, who is a Union government secretary, and projecting him as one of their successful agents.
Police said the photograph of
Anil Mukim, secretary in the ministry of mines, was misrepresented and used as an advertisement for Kotak Life Insurance company’s event held at
Samrat Hotel on August 4. Mukim, 55, is a 1985-batch IAS officer. Brochures using Mukim’s picture were widely circulated prior to the event. Shocked on hearing about the misrepresentation, Anil emailed Rajneesh
Goel, additional chief secretary, home department. Goel forwarded Anil’s email to police commissioner T Suneel Kumar, on whose directive High Grounds police have booked a cheating case.
Kotak Life said Mukim’s picture was used in a pamphlet inviting people to attend a post-retirement career opportunity programme. “Probe shows one of our agency partners, without any authorization from the company, made and distributed the pamphlet. The pamphlet doesn’t mention our company’s name. We neither initiated the programme nor printed, distributed or authorised anyone to print the pamphlet,” said Rohit Rao, chief communication officer, Kotak Mahindra Group.
