After Bengaluru police and officials from the Foreign Regional Registration Office arrested 107 foreign nationals from African countries in July on the charges of overstaying and six of them possessing narcotic substances, the government is now set to deport them.
Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister G. Parameshwara told presspersons here on Friday that arrangements have been made to deport them shortly. The government would pay their flight tickets and the fares would be recovered from the respective embassies and consulates.
The Home Minister said that they had been arrested for visa term violations, overstaying and possession of drugs.
He said that the government is taking the stay of illegal immigrants, including from Bangladesh, in the State seriously. The government is verifying the documents of those from Bangladesh. They would be deported if their stay was found illegal.
Uniforms
Mr. Parameshwara said the Police department is thinking of making women constables wear trousers and shirts instead of saris. It is because many women constables have expressed difficulty in doing duty by wearing saris. No final decision has been taken on the issue. High-level officials of the department were discussing the matter.
Referring to the murder case of journalist Gauri Lankesh, he said that its details would be given once the investigation is complete.
