Sealing driving in Nilgiris

Following the Supreme Court on Thursday directing the Tamil Nadu government to seal or close down within 48 hours 11 resorts and hotels constructed on the elephant corridor of Nilgiris in violation of law, authorities on Friday have started issuing notice to them.

At the World Biofuel Day celebration at the Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, PM Narendra Modi said more use of biofuel will increase farmers’ income and create employment. He said the government has fixed minimum support price of 14 crops at 1.5 times the cost of production. He added that ethanol production to rise to 450 cr. litres in next 4 years from 141 cr litres; to triple import savings at Rs 12,000 crore.

With the death toll in the Kerala floods rising, CM Pinarayi Vijayan held a meeting to review the flood situation, in Thiruvananthapuram. According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin at 8 am, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are likely to affect Idukki, Pathanamthitta and Wayanad districts.
