About 70% of electricity generated in the country is through coal-dependent thermal power centres. Fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gases would exhaust within the next 50 to 70 years at the rate we are using them currently leaving the future in darkness, observed District Collector D. Amoy Kumar.
Addressing farmers and IKP workers at an awareness programme held at the Singareni Clubhouse, by the Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation Limited (TSREDCO), he said conservation of electricity is the need of the hour. Electric appliances like bulbs, fans, coolers, should be used only when needed and turned off immediately after use.
“Solar energy is the only alternative. We need to make a change towards using solar-powered appliances which are available with the TSREDCO at subsidized prices. The IKP workers must play a major role in creating this awareness and make the district a model in energy conservation,” he said. Several solar energy-powered home appliances available for purchase from the TSREDCO were demonstrated on the occasion. Posters and pamphlets were also released for distribution in the villages.
The TSREDCO State Project Director, Srinivasulu, Superintendent Engineer NPDCL Naresh, CPO Komuraiah, DPO Chandramouli, AD Horticulture M.A. Akbar, LDM Srinivas, RTC Depot Manager N. Dharma, Agriculture AD Satyababu, TSREDCO consultant Pavan Kumar, District Manager P.V. Ramana Murthy and others were present.
