It is about to purchase 25 new Embraer E-175 aircraft that would be delivered in the year 2019.
These 25 new planes would replace 25 of the current CRJ-700 aircraft that are flown by the partners of United Express.
In addition, United Airlines is adding some larger aircraft as well, as part of its efforts to replace some of its older widebody fleet. It ordered four new Boeing 787-9 aircraft that would be delivered in 2020. The 787-9 is the longest-range version of the aircraft that also utilizes 20 percent less fuel as compared to an older aircraft.
These widebody jets would offer United’s new sophisticated business class.
The new 787 aircraft are another step in our widebody replacement strategy, and they would continue to roll out new announcements in the future as they implement their comprehensive fleet plan, said Gerry Laderman, United’s senior vice president of finance and acting chief financial officer.
He went on to state that the new E-175 aircraft will provide our customers with a superior product that offers the latest in onboard amenities and comfort and will be a terrific addition to their fleet.
