Coimbatore: The digitization of the database containing details of administrative staff and teachers of the school education department is nearing completion two years after it began.
The department used to keep a booklet containing information of teachers, T Arulanantham with the Tamil Nadu High and Higher Secondary School Teachers Association said. “It contained almost all the details pertaining to teachers including incentives, promotion, deputation and disciplinary actions taken against them. In order to curtail malpractices and ensure transparency, the department started to upload the service registry on its website. All schools will be provided with user names and passwords to access the database,” he said.
The updation process is almost over, an official from the department said. “As the Tamil Nadu government has increased the number of educational districts in the state as a part of reform, officials are segregating the schools as per its districts for easy maintenance. With digitization, the department will be able to keep track of vacant posts and teachers, who are on the verge of retirement,” the official said.
“This will assist the department to ensure that a post does not remain vacant for a long period. Until recently, the officials were registering only the details related to the department in the service registry. From now on, they will register court cases in it,” he said.
The department will soon direct private schools to upload details, including cases pending in courts of the teachers and administrative staff on their website.
