Lending a helping hand to neighbouring Kerala, which has been witnessing heavy rain and unprecedented floods in certain districts, Tamil Nadu government on Thursday announced an immediate contribution of ₹5 crore towards relief operations.

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami in a statement noted that heavy rain and floods in Kerala had caused extensive damage to property and had taken a toll on lives and caused untold suffering to the people in the neighbouring State. He condoled the deaths due to the natural disaster.

Since Kerala had to ensure immediate rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures for the flood-ravaged areas and reconstruction of the devastated areas in the coming days, Mr. Palaniswami said: “As a token of the support and solidarity of the government and people of Tamil Nadu with the government and people of Kerala in their hour of need, I have ordered the immediate contribution of a sum of ₹5 crore from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund to the Government of Kerala,” Mr. Palaniswami said. He also announced that the Tamil Nadu government stood ready to render any other assistance as might be required by Kerala government.
