A Central team that arrived to assess the damage caused by heavy rain toured various parts of the district on Thursday.

The five-member team, led by A.V. Dharma Reddy, Joint Secretary in the Home Ministry, began its visit at Shanghumughom. It visited the eroding coastline and the partially collapsed road there, and spoke to residents and fishermen. The team then headed to Adimalathura in Kottukal panchayat where it saw the roads destroyed in the rain and other places.

It then reached Muzhiyanthottathil in Neyyattinkara municipality where there has been extensive damage to the plantain crop. Farmers and residents told the team how crops such as snake gourd, bitter gourd, and Indian cucumber had been destroyed in the rain. The team also visisted Chenkal panchayat and Nedumangad.
