Three persons have been arrested on the charge of beating up a 35-year-old woman at Hazrapara in Khowai district last month, police said today.
Two of the accused were arrested today while the third one was picked up on Wednesday.
The tribal woman, a mid-day meal worker, was beaten up on her way back from a fair price shop on July 17, the police said but refused to divulge the reason behind the assault.
She was in hospital for several days following the assault and she lodged an FIR only on August 8, shortly after being released from hospital, police said.
Meanwhile, a video has gone viral on social media where the woman is seen beaten up by the accused.
Police said investigation is going on and any video-graphic evidence would be considered.
Reacting to the incident, Pradesh Congress vice president Tapas Dey alleged that women are not safe in Tripura and the quality of governance has not changed though ruling parties have changed.
Ruling BJP spokesperson Mrinal Kanti Deb denied the charge and claimed law and order situation has developed in Tripura in the past five months.
