Road transport ministry: Motorists not required to furnish physical documents to traffic police anymore

The road transport ministry has directed the traffic police to not insist upon original documents where electronic records authenticated by DigiLocker and mParivahan apps are available. The move comes after several cases of confiscated documents getting lost by the transport ministry. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1998, Documents available in “electronic form” are valid and should be treated on a par with certificates issued by the transport authority.
