Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appealed to the youths to donate blood, saying that it was a ‘maha daan’ that helped in saving precious lives.

He was speaking at a voluntary blood donation function held at his official residence on Thursday.

The function was organised by transfusion medicine department of King George’s Medical University.

“The country needs around 130 lakh units of blood every day but only half of it is available with blood banks. The result is that many people die due to paucity of blood. The need of the hour is to motivate youths to donate blood. Voluntary organisations should also come forward for this,” he said.

Yogi said that organising blood donation camps helped in dispelling many myths like the donor becomes weak after donating blood when the fact was that a person could donate blood four times a year as the loss of blood was replenished within three months.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated a blood donor mobile van and gave certificate to one of the donors.
