The Government’s innovative hygienic programme for girl students in schools - Health and Hygiene Kits - was launched at the Raj Bhavan Government High School by Governor’s wife Vimala Narasimhan and Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari on Thursday.
The scheme is aimed at girl students studying in Government Schools from Classes 7 to 12 to improve their overall health and hygiene.
Another programme to tackle anaemia among girls was also started at the school where laddus made of Ragi were distributed.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Narasimhan stressed on the importance of hygiene among girls and it was paramount importance to their overall well-being and also of their family.
Education essential
She said educated girls will make a huge difference to the family as well as the society and they should be encouraged to study. She also asked the teachers to include hygiene education as part of their regular classes since most of the children come from poor backgrounds and were not exposed to personal hygiene.
She also appreciated Hyderabad Collector Yogita Rana for ensuring haemoglobin tests are done for all the girls and vitamin tablets given apart from providing Ragi laddus for the students for three months. Ranjeev Acharya, Special Chief Secretary was also present.
