Regional Ring Road around ORR mooted

more-in

The Telangana government is planning to lay a Regional Ring Road (RRR) around the existing Outer Ring Road on the fringes of Hyderabad.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao on Thursday directed the officials to prepare a detailed project report on construction of the proposed RRR that would meet international standards. At a review meeting with Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi and Roads and Buildings Engineer-in-Chief Ganapathi Reddy at Pragathi Bhavan, he said he would personally speak with the Central government officials for release of funds for the RRR.

Mr. Rao felt the present ORR would not be adequate for the ever increasing traffic volumes into the city in future. The RRR would to be 338 km long and 500 feet wide covering Sangareddy-Gajwel-Chowtuppal-Mal-Kadthal-Shadnagar-Chevella-Kandi. He hoped that the proposed RRR would be better than the present Mumbai-Pune and Ahmedabad-Vadodara express highways. Junction roads linking Vijayawada, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Nagpur would be developed. At these junctions, the government would set up facilities like parking, food-courts, rest-rooms, parks, children playing areas, shopping malls and drinking water in 300 to 500 acres.
