Body was recovered on Wednesday at accused’s instance

Two persons were arrested on Wednesday for kidnapping and murdering a seven-year-old boy in north-west Delhi’s Alipur on Sunday, the police said on Thursday. The accused had demanded ₹1 lakh from the boy’s father.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta said that the accused have been identified as Rohit and Madhav.

The accused said they killed the boy in a jungle about a kilometre away from the victim’s house. The body was recovered on Wednesday night at their instance, the police said.

The boy had gone to play around 4 p.m. on Sunday and did not return home. The father, Vishambar, started looking for him, but in vain. He then approached the Alipur police. He said he also received a call from the kidnappers who demanded ₹1 lakh. A case was filed under relevant IPC Sections.

“The kidnappers called from different numbers and they used other people’s mobile phones to make the calls,” Mr. Gupta said.

“Rohit is a neighbour to the victim’s family and Madhav lives about 3 km away,” the officer said. During interrogation, the accused told the police that they had kidnapped the boy on Madhav’s bicycle and the victim came along because he knew Rohit well.

“They said they killed the boy as they thought they would get identified. The motive was money as both were unemployed,” said a senior police officer.
