Indore: DAVV to continue with semester system

Indore: Though coordination committee, an apex body of higher education in state, directed institutions of higher learning to bring BBA and BCA courses under annual system of examination, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) said that it would continue to run the programme under semester system.

“The coordination committee’s decision is not applicable on universities having separate ordinances, which stipulate for running BBA and BCA courses under semester system,” said vice-chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad. He said DAVV has ordinance for BBA course, which is for running the course under semester system.

“The ordinance is applicable for both university teaching departments and colleges,” Dhakad said. But lately the coordination committee had decided that three-year courses including BA, BSc, BCom, BBA, BCA courses would be under annual examination pattern except those for which the university has separate ordinances. Except DAVV, all other universities in the state do not have separate ordinances for BBA and BCA course. That means that they would have to run the courses under annual pattern of examination.

B-schools welcome move

The announcement by DAVV that it would run BBA course under semester system has come as a major relief to b-schools in the city. “BBA is a professional course so the government’s move of putting it under annual system is wrong. We are happy that we will be unaffected by the government’s decision,” said Anas Iqbal, director of Vishisht School of Management.

Arihant College chief executive officer Kavita Kasliwal expressed similar views adding that BCA should also be kept under semester system. Dhakad said they are in search of ordinance for BCA course too. “If we don’t have ordinance for semester in BCA, we will get it prepared,” he added.
