Shops and business establishments remained closed with no movement of government and private buses

DMK cadre in Tiruchi and other districts in the central region mourned the death of their leader, former Tamil Nadu CM M. Karunanidhi, as normal life came to a halt on Wednesday.

DMK cadre put up flex boards across Tiruchi city hailing their leader.

The otherwise busy thoroughfares remained deserted with sparse vehicular movements. Goods carriers too were off the roads and so were autorickshaws and other tourist vehicles.

Police personnel were deployed at vantage spots to beef up security measures. Police sources said there were no untoward incidents at Tiruchi and other places till now.

On Tuesday night, miscreants damaged a windshield of a SETC bus in Tiruvarur district.
