Hectic activity is underway in the State unit of the Congress party with candidates seeking ticket for contesting the upcoming Assembly polls slated later this year in the State.

Tuesday was the last day to apply for the tickets in the respective block offices of the various Assembly segments. Party leaders along with their supporters reached Block Congress Committee offices all over the state to file their application along with submission of bio-data.

At Baikunthpur in Koriya district, niece of the first Finance Minister of the State and scion of royal family late Ramchandra Singhdeo, Ambika Singhdeo is seeking a ticket to contest poll. After denial of ticket to Ramchandra Singhdeo in previous elections, party fielded Vedant Tiwari instead.

Tiwari lost the previous election with a narrow margin of around 1000 votes. Now the party has to contemplate whether to re-allot ticket to Vedant or not this time round.

Party is also thinking that Ambika might be better option as there may be sympathy votes for her in the elections, sources said.

Meanwhile, according to party sources, a large number of applications were filed on Tuesday. For the four Assembly seats in capital itself, around 40 applications have been submitted, informed the sources.

Interesting is the situation of Raipur(North) for which three of a family have applied. The names include former Corporator Anand Kukreja and his sons --former Corporator Ajit Kukreja and Sunil Kukreja. Former MLA Kuldeep Juneja also filed his application on Tuesday and claimed for the ticket from Raipur (North).
