LUDHIANA: City residents woke up to sudden showers here on Tuesday that lasted through the day, bringing the day temperature down by six degrees. As rainfall started in the early morning hours of Tuesday and continued until evening, pleasant weather conditions prevailed in the city, giving respite to local citizens from the sultry, sweltering weather.
The city’s meteorology department has predicted that residents might witness light to moderate rainfall in the next 24 hours, which will further bring down the day temperature. Weather experts at the local level said cloudy weather conditions were likely to prevail in the city in next 24 hours, with chances of light to moderate rainfall. From the early morning hours of Tuesday until afternoon, 47.6mm rainfall was recorded by local officials of the meteorology department of Punjab Agriculture University (PAU).

As rainfall lashed the city, its effect reflected on the maximum temperature, which was recorded at 26C (six degrees below normal), while the minimum temperature was 24C (one degree below normal). Relative humidity in the city also went down, recording at 85% (5% above normal). “There are chances of rainfall until Sunday with the same frequency, so people stepping out of their houses will have to carry raincoats and umbrellas with them,” said officials.

Meanwhile, city residents rejoiced in the pleasant weather after a spell of hot and humid conditions that prevailed in the city for the past several days. Ankit Kapoor said: “Monday’s showers brought great relief to city residents, as from the past few days, the temperature had gone well above the normal temperature. With this rainfall, now residents will not face any trouble roaming outside in the afternoon hours.”
