Biker Smashes Into The Back Of A Ford Focus ST Under Braking

The problem with older motorcycles that lack ABS is that they’re much easier than newer ones to crash under heavy braking. Not that anti-lock helps much if you don’t adjust your speed according to traffic anyway.

According to the description of the following video, the driver of the car, a Ford Focus ST, had just clamped on the brakes himself (about 50% of the way) due to almost stationary traffic about 150 feet (45 meters) ahead.

The rider was clearly going too fast and too close to the car. If he had kept a safer distance maybe he could have managed to minimize the risk, although we wouldn’t bet on it seen as how he just plowed into the back of the hot hatch as if he was completely unaware of its presence.

“The motorcyclist locked up his rear tire and slid, he was OK, pretty scraped and the handle bars were bent on the bike” – that’s how it went down in the words of the driver.

As for what caused the actual lock-up to occur, well, seen as how the rider’s right foot wasn’t actually on the rear brake during the slide, we reckon he might have engaged the clutch too abruptly without rev-matching. Regardless, he should consider himself lucky for not having sustained any major injuries, especially since he wasn’t even wearing a jacket and gloves.
