Not patients, these ambulances are being used for ferrying goods

At a time when there is an acute shortage of ambulances across the state, here in Pune they are being used to lug goods . The Mirror team found a bunch of Zilla Parishad employees loading two ambulances with goods. They had stuffed the two vehicles otherwise meant for ferrying patients . No wonder there is never a vehicle available in case of emergencies. When the Mirror team contacted Dr Dilip Mane, district health officer, he said that some of the ambulances are multi-purpose vehicles. “We are preparing for national deworming day on August 10. The staff must take material required for that. These ambulances are also used by doctors during their visits to different hospitals. There are no dedicated vehicles available with our department for transporting people and material,” he said.
