CHENNAI: At least 77 vehicles were damaged on Tuesday night after the Tamil Nadu government refused to allot land on Marina Beach here to bury the mortal remains of DMK president M Karunanidhi. The damaged vehicles include 65 TNSTC and three MTC buses.
Seven people were injured when protesters pelted vehicles with stones.

Most of the stone pelting incidents happened in Tiruvallur, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Salem, Trichy and Madurai. Police arrested six men.

The Madras high court on Wednesday morning directed the Tamil Nadu government to allot a space on Marina Beach as the last resting place for the five-time chief minister. The funeral will take place in the evening.
