AMBALA: A young soldier from
Ambala was among the four Army personnel killed while foiling an infiltration bid near the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of
Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning. Lance Naik Vikramjeet Singh (26), a resident of Tepla village in the district, had got married just a few months back, officials said.
His body will reach the Ambala Cantonment air force station on Wednesday.
Lance Naik Singh is survived by his wife, who is expecting their first child, farmer parents and a younger brother, who is also in the Army. “I am proud of his son’s martyrdom. Vikramjit wanted to join the Army right from his childhood. I have two sons and both of them opted to join the Army,” said his father Baljinder Singh.
Tepla sarpanch Sunmeet Kaur said, “Vikramjit had joined the Army nearly fives years ago and got married on January 15 this year. His brother Monu Singh is posted in Assam.”
Ambala additional deputy commissioner Shakti Singh visited the residence of the martyr to console his bereaved family. The soldier’s mortal remains will be cremated at his native village with full state honours, an official said.
