19-year-old Harley Davidson biker dies after being run over by truck in Delhi’s Naraina

The deceased, Gavish Mair, lived in Karol Bagh. Police said Mair was riding his black Harley Davidson motorcycle and was accompanied by a friend on another bike. The two were on their way to join a group of bikers in Gurugram.

A 19-year-old biker was killed after a truck ran over him on Sunday morning in west Delhi’s Naraina.

Police have traced the truck’s owner and are trying to arrest the driver, an officer said.

The deceased, Gavish Mair, lived in Karol Bagh. Police said Mair was riding his black Harley Davidson motorcycle and was accompanied by a friend on another bike. The two were on their way to join a group of bikers in Gurugram.

“We got a call from Safdarjung Hospital reporting that a man had died in an accident. When a police team reached the hospital, they met Mair’s friend Prtham Gulati (25), who had rushed Mair to the hospital, said a senior officer, who did not wish to be named.  

“Gulati told police that at around 6.10 am on Sunday, they were on the Naraina flyover, going towards Dhaula Kuan, when a speeding truck hit Mair’s bike from behind,” the officer said.

Gulati told police Mair was crushed under the rear wheels of the truck. “Gulati said that with the help of two passers- by, he managed to catch hold of the truck driver but he started arguing and later fled. Also, seeing his friend bleeding, Gulati said he rushed Mair to the hospital, where he died during the treatment,” the officer said.

Gulati said Mair had recently joined their motorcyclists’ squad. “We had met Mair recently. He was pursuing law from a college. I did not know him much,” said Gulati.

Police said they had identified the truck owner and are trying to trace the driver Deputy commissioner of police (West) Vijay Kumar was not available for comments despite repeated calls and text messages.
