A young woman found at old-age home

Hours after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recommended a CBI probe into the irregularities and alleged sexual exploitation at a Deoria shelter home, the police on Wednesday claimed to have traced all 48 of the inmates who had been living there.

However, only 41 of them have been physically verified, Deoria Superintendent of Police Rohan P. Kanay told The Hindu, adding that the figure of 48 included minor boys and girls and adults.

The rescued inmates will be sent to shelter homes in Varanasi and Allahabad after their statements are recorded in front of a magistrate, a senior official said.

One of the inmates, a 21-year-old woman who was missing from the shelter home in Deoria was recovered from an old age home in Gorakhpur run by the same NGO on Saturday.

Girija Tripathi and her husband Mohan Tripathi, both now arrested, ran the organization. ADM (administration) Gorakhpur, Prabhu Nath said the young woman was recovered along with four elderly women whose names were listed in the register.

Mr. Kanay said the list submitted by Ms. Tripathi was updated only till July 4 and did not include five adoptions made after the date, thus taking the total inmates at that time to 48.
