Remember the 'Palm' smartphone? It's coming back after all these years

Among everything else a 90’s kid would definitely remember the ‘Palm’ smartphones, devices that were considered uber cool. The smartphones came with WebOS out of the box and even had a physical keyboard. Eventually, the hardware was bought by HP and then by TCL in 2015. WebOS, as we know now, is in LG’s kitty. Nonetheless, the Palm smartphones are coming back from dead and the latest piece of evidence proves it.
First spotted by Android Police, a new Palm-branded smartphone has shown up on FCC and WiFi Alliance certification websites. The handset is seen with the moniker Palm PVG100 and the device is submitted by Palm Ventures Group (owned by TCL).
Nothing much is known about the smartphone for now except for the fact that it will be running Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and that it will have support for 2.4GHz and quad-band LTE connectivity. It is worth noticing here that there is no support mentioned for the 5GHz networks, something you will find in nearly every other smartphones, until unless it’s a budget offering.
This certification falls in line with a report by Android Police from March this year. The website said that a Palm-branded smartphone was scheduled to come through Verizon in the second half of 2018.
TCL is not only the brand that is behind Palm smartphones but is also the company that manufactures Alcatel handsets and even BlackBerry since past few years.
Back in 2015 when Palm came to TCL, it was assumed that Alcatel will be the one that will be reviving the brand with a new smartphone. However, we never saw a Palm device ever since. At that time, Web OS nation website reported that the Pam trademark was owned by Nicolas Zibell, who also happened to be the President, Americas and Pacific at Alcatel One Touch.
