Ford Unveils The 10 Millionth Mustang, Has 296 HP More Than The Original

Ford recently built the 10 millionth Mustang at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant and company is celebrating the accomplishment by highlighting the iconic pony car.

The landmark model is a 2019 Mustang GT Convertible which features a Wimbledon White exterior. The car is relatively plain looking, but that was done on purpose. As Ford explained, the very first Mustang was also a white convertible.

Despite the fact that both models are same color and body style, they have little else in common. The original Mustang had a three-speed manual transmission and a V8 engine developing 164 hp (122 kW / 166 PS). 54 years later, the 10 millionth Mustang has a six-speed manual and a 5.0-liter V8 producing 460 hp (343 kW / 466 PS).

The Mustang has come a long way since the original model was built in 1964 and it has relatively popular over the years. Ford says the Mustang has been the world’s best-selling sports car for the past three years and has been America’s best-selling sports car, overall, for the past five decades.

The Mustang isn’t just popular with buyers as the Mustang Facebook page has more likes on than any other vehicle nameplate. The model is also a bit of a movie star as the company says the Mustang has been featured in more films than any other car in the world.

As part of the celebrations, Ford held events at its headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan as well as at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant. The festivities included a parade of Mustangs travelling between the two facilities and three P-51 Mustangs preforming flyovers.
