Minutes between crash and potential tragedy as car crashes into house

A woman has had a lucky escape after a car smashed into a house in Canberra's north on Monday.

No one was home when a white ute ploughed through a wall and into the loungeroom and bathroom of a Page home about 12.30pm, but it could have been a different story if the crash had happened minutes earlier.

"My fiance had been sitting on the lounge about 20 minutes before [the crash], right where the car came through," a resident of the Braine Street home, who asked not to be named, said.

"[The home's three residents] were all at work when it happened, thank God."

The man said while he was not thrilled with the damage, which had left the house uninhabitable, he was thankful no one had been hurt.

"Most of our belongings were upstairs anyway, but it's not great," he said.

It is believed the ute travelled along Springvale Drive and crossed Belconnen Way before crashing into a shed and coming to rest in the Braine Street property.

An ACT Policing spokesperson confirmed police were investigating the crash, and called for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage of the incident to come forward.

The spokesperson refused to say whether police had arrested or charged the driver, or whether speed was believed to be a factor in the crash, citing the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information was urged to call ACT Policing Operations on 131 444 and quote reference number 6294878.

An Emergency Services Agency spokeswoman said paramedics attended the crash, but did not take anyone to hospital.
