Hearing on a public interest litigation regarding purported sale of beef at a village in Roorkee, the high court has directed the Haridwar senior superintendent of police to inspect the scene and submit a report within a week. According to the case details, Roorkee resident Alim had filed the PIL stating that a resident of Saulapur Gada village had secured a permit to sell meat in 2014-15. The permit was not renewed and now the person is slaughtering bovines which is also polluting the rivers and nalas in the village. This has also created a health risk in the village. The villagers had complained to the SSP and a police probe had confirmed the sale of the said meat. However, since no action was taken against the accused, the petitioner approached the high court. The divison bench of officiating chief justice Rajeev Sharma and justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari has now directed the SSP to inspect the site and submit his report within a week.
