CHANDIGARH: To promote ancient gurukul education system in
Haryana, chief minister
Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday announced that the state government would provide land free of cost to those gurukuls, which would provide free education to students. Besides, it would also assist in making all necessary arrangements required to run such gurukuls, including teachers. Khattar was speaking at an event on ‘Relevance of the Gurukul System in the Present Era’ organized by Panchnad Shodh Sansthan, Chandigarh, here.
Underlining the significance of gurukuls in providing education based on renunciation and dedication to the children, the CM said instead of confining just to the 3Rs of education — reading, writing and arithmetic — moral values, yoga and patriotism should be made a part of the education system for the overall development of children. He said as per the ancient system, it was the moral responsibility in our society to provide facilities of health and education to the people free of cost.
Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, director Jagat Ram described gurukul as the best education system, which aims at the overall development of children. He also stressed the need to include the issues pertaining to human values in the present education system. Panchnad Shodh Sansthan director B K Kuthiala said their institution was set up in 1984-85 with an aim to maintaining a sense of harmony in society.
Another speaker at the event Mukul Kanitkar said at present more than 4,000 gurukuls were functioning in the country. He said to implement the gurukul system of education, atmosphere in schools, colleges and universities needed to be changed.
