Bhopal: BMC claims land dispute for headquarter settled; still persists says PHE

Bhopal: Even as Public Health Engineering (PHE) continues to objects to the proposed BMC’s headquarter on their land, the civic body authorities claim that the dispute between the two bodies has been sorted out. The issue of construction of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s headquarter on the PHE land near Mata Mandir Square was taken by in a meeting held on Monday.

BMC had announced to get its headquarters constructed on the land, but the PHE department has been opposing the civic body move claiming that the land was theirs, which the municipal body had allegedly encroached upon. PHE had even moved High Court and the case is sub judice.

BMC on Monday tried to sort the issue by calling PHE union office bearers to commissioner office where the matter was again taken up for discussion. After the meeting, the Municipal additional commissioner Ranveer Singh claimed that that the issue has been resolved and that BMC is likely to construct its headquarter on the land. PHE now has no objection and the BMC will go ahead with its project, said the officer.

However, the PHE was soon to deny on reaching any settlement over the issue with BMC. Khursheed Siddiqui, president of the union for PHE, said that the civic body has illegally encroached upon their land and using it for parking purpose. The municipal body has been claiming their right over the land which is not theirs, we have filed a petition the Madhya Pradesh, High Court in Jabalpur where the matter is sub judice but they are unnecessarily building pressure on us, he added.
