Former Chief Secretary C. Thomas died on Tuesday at a private hospital here after a brief illness. He was 103.
He was one among the six IAS officers belonging to the first batch of Travancore Civil Service in 1946, one year before India became independent.
When the State was formed in 1956, he became the first Agriculture Secretary and also held the post of forest, food and local administration secretaries.
Mr. Thomas also held the post of Finance Secretary during 1962-66 and was also the first member on the Board of Revenue in 1973.
He also held the post of Chairman, KSRTC, and Commissioner, Civil Supplies.
He retired from service in 1973. In 1981, he was made the Pay Commission member and also held a six-year term as Director of the SBI for Southern Region.
He is survived by son Ravi Thomas, daughters Yasmin, and Roshan Thomas.
The funeral will take place on August 9 at 2 p.m. at Christ Church Palayam here, family sources said.
