Whitmer, Schuette win Michigan gov. nominations

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Democrat Gretchen Whitmer and Republican Bill Schuette will face off in November to become Michigan's next governor.

Whitmer, the state's first-ever female leader of a state Senate caucus, beat former Detroit health director Dr.

Abdul El-Sayed and chemical-testing entrepreneur Shri Thanedar, to win the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.

Whitmer will square off against Michigan's Republican attorney general, Bill Schuette, who won the Republican nomination defeating three other candidates.

Whitmer and Schuette are looking to replace GOP Governor Rick Snyder in November.
