Karunanidhi death Live Updates: Madras HC dismisses petitions challenging construction of Karunanidhi’s memorials at Marina beach


DMK chief M Karunanidhi, passed away at the Kauvery Hospital in downtown Chennai at 6.10 p.m after waging a grim battle for life for 11 days. Hundreds of supporters broke down outside the Kauvery Hospital as the news of the DMK patriarch’s death was announced in the evening. Meanwhile, the hearing in High Court over the burial of Karunanidhi’s remains at Marina Beach is set to resume at 8 am on Wednesday. The Tamil Nadu Government also has declared a public holiday on August 8 as a mark of respect for late former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M Karunanidhi.

A large number of people have gathered outside the Rajaji Hall here to pay their last respects to DMK President M.Karunanidhi, who died on Tuesday evening due to age related ailments. The mortal remains of Karunanidhi was brought to Rajaji Hall on early Wednesday after it was taken to his homes at Gopalapuram here and at CIT Colony for relatives and leaders to pay their last respects to the departed leader.
