Belagavi: Special Investigation Team (
SIT) sleuths took two men from
Belagavi into custody on Wednesday in connection with the investigation into the
murder of journalist-activist
Gauri Lankesh.
Sources say SIT sleuths interrogated the man, said to be the owner of a hotel on Mahadwar Road in Shahapur, for nearly two hours at the police guesthouse and later shifted him to an unidentified location.
Local police claimed they were not informed about the detentions made around 11am. The second suspect was also picked from Shahapur, sources said.
SIT sleuths are questioning the man, a resident of Sambhaji Galli at Mahadwar Road, for sheltering Parashuram Waghmore of Vijayapura, the man who allegedly pulled the trigger on Lankesh. Waghmore is believed to have told investigators that he was sheltered by the Belagavi resident while receiving training to fire a gun.
“It seems that the hotel owner had not charged Waghmore for his stay at the hotel. If it is true, the hotel owner definitely is a sympathizer of this group,” a SIT officer said.
