This is why DMK chief Karunanidhi despite being a Hindu is buried and not cremated

DMK chief Karunanidhi’s demise has made everyone in Tamil Nadu sad, and people in the state are under shock. After his death, it was decided that Karunanidhi will be buried and not cremated. But the question arises that when Karunanidhi was a born Hindu than why is he buried?

According to India Times report, Karunanidhi had confessed that he is atheist. As for people who do not believe in god, their last rituals are performed according to the belief system that runs in their family or community. Karunanidhi had admitted that he belonged to Isai Vellalar caste. ‘Isai’ means music and ‘Vellalar’ is a rough translation for something related to agriculture.

Karunanidhi was 14 when he joined justice party, and the founder of Dravidian movement Periyar was also an atheist. Karunanidhi was known to be the follower of Periyar. He was mentored by another great Dravidian leader and a follower of Periyar, CN Annadurai. Both Periyar and Annadurai were buried and not cremated.

And all the Dravidian leaders are buried, with sandalwood and rose water. Experts of Dravidian movement also believe that the burial of these leaders allows them to still remember the stalwarts.
