As per directions issued by Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Devvrat, the phrase 'His Excellency' or 'Mahamhim' will no longer be used as a greeting while addressing him.
Instead of using 'His Excellency ' or its Hindi synonym 'Mahamhim', the words 'The Governor' or 'Rajyapal Mahodya' may be used and 'Governor ji' may be used in government remarks, Dr Arun Sharma, Secretary to the Governor, said in a press release issued here today.
A notification in this regard has been issued by the Raj Bhavan, he said.
While no reason has been mentioned in the release, it is understood that the governor wants to discontinue the tradition set during the British rule.
