Elon Musk talked to Softbank about Tesla investment: report

Tesla Inc. TSLA, -2.42% Chief Executive Elon Musk and Softbank Group Corp. 9984, +4.78% Chief Executive Masayoshi Son held talks last year, including about potentially taking the car maker private, according to a Bloomberg News report that cited two people with knowledge of the discussions. The two CEOs discussed an investment in Tesla and touched upon taking it private, but talks fell through "due to disagreements over ownership," the report said. There are no active discussions now, according to the report. Wall Street remained abuzz Wednesday about Tesla's going-private plan and the lack of details about funding. Only a few pockets were deemed deep enough to fund a buyout in the tens of billions of dollars, with Softbank among the few mentioned. Softbank in June invested $2.25 billion in General Motors Co. GM, +0.21% driverless-car unit, Cruise Automation.|
