Kuniyamuthur police will also submit a report to the RDO

The Department of Health will prepare a comprehensive report on the activities of ‘Healer' Baskar’s Anatomic Therapy Foundation at its Kovaipudur facility that allegedly posed threat to public health.

The report will be prepared under the supervision of P. Krishna, Joint Director of Medical and Rural Health Services (in-charge). It will be forwarded to the higher officials in Health Department and Revenue Department.

“The report has its importance as the alleged alternative healing and therapy practices were against the objectives set by various health missions and projects by the State government to promote institutional delivery, prevent maternal and infant mortality,” said an official.

The action was taken after Baskar, 42, and Srinivasan, 32, manager of the Kovaipudur facility named Nistai International Life Style Training Centre, were arrested and remanded on August 2.

Health Department had found that the centre had planned to conduct a training programme on normal delivery for women on August 26.

The centre cancelled the event following the arrest of the two.

The notice allegedly circulated by the centre on the training programme for women said that “normal delivery is giving birth at home, the one free from medicine and tablets, vaccines, scanning, blood tests and doctor’s consultation”.

“The report will also include inputs and opinions from medical bodies like Indian Medical Association on the centre’s functioning,” said the official.

Apart from Health Department, the Kuniyamuthur police will also submit a report to the Revenue Divisional Officer (South) on the functioning of the centre.

Basakar and Srinivasan were arrested under Sections 511 (Punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) and 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property).
