A 17-year-old girl and two others, including a youth she wanted to allegedly elope with, were held for staging theft at her house.
The girl’s father reported theft of ₹22 lakh from his house on August 3 and told the police that four men had entered his house in Rajendranagar when he was away, locked his daughter and broke open a safe only to decamp with the cash.
Cops’ suspicions
The police’s investigations, however, revealed a different picture.
“When we reviewed the CCTV footage and enquired from eye-witnesses, we became suspicious about the version of theft narrated to us. According to the girl, there were four people, but eye-witnesses’ description was corroborated by the security camera visuals,” said Shamshabad DCP P.V. Padmaja.
When the police began questioning, they learnt the girl had planned to elope with Mohammed Arshad Khan, 19, who had befriended her while studying intermediate.
