Continuous flak forces MCD to clean drains

Facing flak over most of the city roads going under water following the recent spell of rain, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is now conducting a special cleanliness drive which started from Monday. It is learnt that in all, 120 sanitation workers have been deployed as part of the drive to clean the drains in the city to avert water logging situations in the coming days.  

The sanitation drive was conducted  on Monday  in the areas near Bindal, Sattowali, Kawli Road, Govindgarh Puliya and some others. Two inspectors along with 40 sanitation workers were  seen cleaning the drains. Besides, four JCBs and six tractor trolleys were engaged  in the drive.

An amount of `1000  was given to the workers as an incentive for good work. Now, eight teams formed by MCD are working since Tuesday.

Speaking of the ongoing drive, the municipal commissioner Vijay Kumar Jogdande said, “To tackle the water logging problem in the city, we have made eight teams which have been deployed in different places to clean both the small and big drains. In all, 120 sanitation workers are regularly doing their work under the direction of the eight sanitation inspectors.

Sanitation workers under the inspectors are also looking after the wards to ensure that the drains are unclogged to let the rain water pass swiftly. Besides, we have deployed four JCBs which are now working in the fields.”

He, further, said that they are appointing workers to clean the three big drains in the city.  “ A tender  process is on. For small drains in the city, we have appointed around 40 sanitation workers. The drive will continue regularly in the city,” he added.

As per the information, all the complaints registered in the disaster and flood control cell has been addressed by the MCD so far. The maximum number of water logging complaints received over the last two days were from Nehrugram.
