Guv, former ISRO chairman inaugurate Toppers Conclave

The Uttarakhand Governor Krishan Kant Paul along with former chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) AS Kiran Kumar inaugurated the Toppers Conclave at Raj Bhawan.

Addressing the gathering as the main speaker, Kumar said that Indian satellites had brought about a revolution in agriculture, navigation, weather forecasting and telecommunications. He said that learning, unlearning and re-learning were important for students. Technology was changing fast and students must be ready to learn new things always. Kumar also spoke on the role of scientific and technological research in nation building, exhorting the students to keep learning from their failures. He spoke about the many challenges and failures faced during the early days of the Indian space mission. .He said that despite this, the Indian scientists, through their determination and hard work, succeeded.

He said Chandrayan, Mangalayaan and satellite launch vehicles had enhanced the prestige of India. 

The best use of scientific and technological development was for human welfare, he added.

Earlier, the Governor said that the main objective of the conclave was to develop an environment of academic excellence and create an interest in technological development and modern learning among students. He said that the conclave not only encourages the toppers but also acts as an inspiration to other students .

He said that the proceedings  and lectures delivered at the conclave would be published in the form of a book and sent to the universities. Paul said that  the education system must be future oriented along with being modern. Students must be familiar with smart campuses as well as smart villages, he added.

State Education Minister Arvind Pandey said that students must learn to face challenges.

The State’s Higher Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that that universities in the State had 93 per cent faculty appointed in them. Soon, a Gyan Kumbh would be organised in the State. Apart from the Ministers, toppers and vice chancellors of all the State universities were also among those present on the occasion.
