MUMBAI: Chaos ensued at the
Directorate of Technical Education's (DTE) office in Fort, on Monday, after the officials erroneously put out a wrong allotment list in the second round of second-year
engineering admissions. Though a rectified list was put up within a few hours, students insisted that they be given the same institute which was allotted previously. DTE has issued a show cause notice to the agency handling the online admission process. Thousands of students were affected after the wrongful allotment.
At around 11 pm on Saturday night, the second list of admissions for diploma students, who get direct entry to the second-year of BE programme, was put up. However, the allotment did not match the vacancies available at engineering institutes after the first round. "Our officials brought this to the notice of the agency and the erroneous list was pulled off from the website in two hours. At 4.30 am, the DTE put out a fresh list with the correct seat matrix," said director, DTE,
Abhay Wagh.
Several students gathered at the
DTE office on Monday morning to protest the wrongful allotment. "Many of us were allotted two different colleges in the two the lists. And some of us - at least a few hundreds - were not allotted a college at all in the fresh list put out on Sunday morning. It has caused trauma to many of the students, who are now left without seats after the list was rectified," said a protesting student.
Around 33,000 students were allotted admissions in the second list, which was changed in five hours. Wagh said that they have issued a show cause notice to the agency conducting the centralised admission process. "However, it was not possible for us to allot seats on the basis of a wrong seat matrix," he said.
