HYDERABAD: Police warned of action against popular
YouTube prank video-makers, who perform dangerous stunts like dips during traffic snarls, lie down on the road in peak hours, climb on moving four-wheelers or squat in the middle of the road to eat.
Cops swung into action, following complaints to IT minister
K T Rama Rao, stating pranks in the name of ‘dare-series’ by two youngsters are running on Youtube channel — Vinay Kuyya. The channel has more than 62,000 subscribers.
A netizen, Indrakaran Reddy, tweeted, stating shooting and uploading of prank videos should not be encouraged as it triggers inconvenience and traffic chaos.
Raja Venkat Reddy of Hyderabad police’s traffic cell said, “We have received a complaint. We will check and take action.”
The two youths, Vinay Kuyya and Darestar Gopal, who are promoting the YouTube channel defended their act. Vinay Kuyya, a resident of Dilshuknagar, said, “I am a creative director with the company and working as researcher. It is my passion to shoot such videos. After making a
prank video like climbing on a car, we talk to car owners. We upload only after consent. We also tell them if any damage is done to their car, we pay for it. We take precaution while shooting daring pranks on road. So far, there has been no accident as we are alert.”
Vinay said, “My videos are different from other pranks on YouTube. There are several fans and subscribers, who like these videos and post positive comments. Why is our prank an issue when there is no action on beggars who barge into traffic, jaywalkers and drunk men, who create nuisance. We shoot only for a few minutes.”
He said, “Our Arjun Reddy parody film, Aruna Reddy, was a blockbuster on YouTube. We created several social awareness video pranks like the national flag being tossed on the road and whether public picks up the tricolour and shows respect. We also created awareness pranks like wallet thrown on the road so that we can see how people react. We shoot videos on public defecation and urination too.”
So far, the duo has made 20 prank videos under the title ‘Dare-series’. Some videos are vulgar, replete with foul language with obscene tilt.
“In films, heroes remove shirts. In the film, Arjun Reddy, street language was used. When there is no problem with these films, why is there a problem with our videos? People laugh it off after we tell them it is a prank,” said Vinay.
