UTU members booked for unlawful assembly, restraining employee

Dabolim airport police late Monday night registered  offences against the members of United Taximen Union (UTU), besides its president Sanjay Naik, for forming an unlawful assembly and furtherance with common object wrongfully restraining an employee of the Goa Miles app-based service operating at the  airport.

Vasco PI Nolasco Raposo, who holds the additional charge of Dabolim airport police station,  said that based upon a complaint from the managing director of Goa Miles App Utkarsh Dabhade having its help-desk counter at the airport, the airport police have registered offences, under sections 143, 341, 504, 506 (ii) read with Section 149 of IPC against the UTU president Sanjay Naik, a resident of Vaddem, Dinesh Shetye of Vasco, Chandu Gad of Baina, Ibrahim Imandar of Mangor  Hill, Anand Pednekar of New Vaddem and Sanjeev Naik of Sancoale for forming an unlawful assembly and furtherance with common object wrongfully restraining an employee of the complaint, Hemant Prabhu Chodankar, while he was giving information on app to a passenger at the airport.

The accused further threatened Chodankar with dire consequences if he continued to provide  information on app to the public, informed the police. Meanwhile, a complaint has been filed by Mehboob Dodamani of Mangor Hill against the UTU president Naik late Monday night, alleging that the accused  along with his other accomplices including Dinesh Shetye, Chandu Gad and Ibrahim Imandar with their common object formed an unlawful assembly and  abused Manoj Tari with filthy words as he and Tari  were plying their taxis under the newly launched app based taxi service, and further two from the group Dinesh Shetye and other assaulted him (complainant) with fist blows and tore his shirt.

The accused later also allegedly threatened the complainant with dire consequences if he and Tari continued to operate their taxis under the newly launched app-based taxi service.

Dabolim airport police in this connection have registered offences under section 323, 504, 506 (ii) read with 149 IPC.

The case has been transferred to the Vasco police station for further investigation on point of jurisdiction.
