Bikers Took the streets to spread awareness for Organ Donation
Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal, The “Gift An Organ” Vertical of CII-YI launched the week-long awareness campaign with a bike rally here in Bhopal which started from DB City Mall Smart Parking and ended at Lalghati crossroads on Sunday, Hundreds of motorcycle riders from Born To Ride Group participated in the rally and gave people a message about the holy cause of organ donation, exhorting the public to pledge to donate their organs and provide new lease of life to the ones in need.
National head of organ donation vertical of CII-YI Mr.Rakesh Sukharmani who received the rally here said that people generally have many misconceptions about organ donation. But it is not as difficult as it seems. He told that 8 types of organs can be donated, namely the heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, eyes, pancreas, intestines and skin. That means one person can save 8 lives.
CII-YI Chair Bhopal Mr.Saurabh Sharma said that in the organ donation awareness week, they will be going to different colleges and Gyms in Bhopal to spread awareness among people towards organ donation by taking sessions with the audience. Discussing the campaign, he said that according to the rules of the Organ Donation Act of 1994, organ donation can be done only in the hospitals who have the facility of transplantations.
Due to this rule, the people of far-flung areas were not able to support the noble cause. But in 2011 a change was made. According to the new rule, now any hospital with an ICU can accept donations. Hence now the need to sensitize people by organising such events is altogether much more important.
The Family members of the Organ donors Shashank Korane and Ajay Shirke flagged off the bike rally. Also, Medical Education Commissioner, Mr Shiv Shekhar Shukla was also present at the flag off. While appreciating the initiative of CII-YI, he said that at the present time when medical technology has been establishing new paradigms it is very important for people to know that their initiatives can help save lives.
This awareness campaign will continue over next week. During which volunteers will be going to different colleges and gyms and will be talking to people about pledging to organ donation. Co-Chair of CII-YI Bhopal Apoorv Malviya and CII-Yi Bhopal, Head of Organ Donation Vertical, Prashant Jain will oversee the proceedings.
